Weekly Photo Challenge: CHANGE

Two winters ago I was extremely lucky to go on a 5-day trip to the Island of Malta. The trip not only provided me with a change of geography, weather, culture, history, and gastronomy, but it also made possible for me to see Popeye Village that is a remnant of a movie set for the musical that was filmed there in 1980.

Since Popeye was by far my favourite cartoon growing up, which made me eat spinach and sing the theme song for hours on end, I could not pass on the opportunity to see the village.

Here is a glimpse of Popeye Village aka Sweet-haven Village situated in beautiful Anchor Bay in the north-west corner of Malta.

  1. Such beautiful beautiful pictures!
Of course, I doubt if I’d be able to work out how to take the lens cap off myself.. but if happy memories of my Valletta honeymoon serve me correctly the light in that part of the world must be a photographers dream come true?!
    Thanks for posting.

    • Hello Steven… I appreciate this kind comment so much. What month did you visit Malta? I also stayed in Valletta; it was a week after the New Year’s Day, but we were so lucky with the weather. I wasn’t properly equipped to take photos back then and the days in January are so short, so I am determined to go back some day again in spring or autumn 🙂

  2. I knew your music was going to be “I’m Popeye the sailor man,” and I wasn’t disappointed. 🙂 I used to love that programme too.
    What a lovely little village.

  7. Tragic, Paula! I was often compared to Olive Oyl (Oil?) in my youth…
I won’t hold it against Malta though. I’ve often wanted to visit.

    • How could that be??!! Were you dark-haired and had the same hairdo? Anyway Olive is a pretty girl, but a nasty character 😉

  8. This is from the set of the Popeye starring Robin Williams I suppose? I grew up on that movie (don’t ask why 😉 )
How cool that part of the set remains! You’ve captured this, as you do with so many landscapes, quite well. 🙂

  11. Love the way you framed the village, such a neat scene. That turquoise water in the second one makes me want to throw on the scuba gear and jump in!

    • Hi Max 🙂 So far I am not sorry I have removed it.. I feel free to ignore all those like-pressing freaks that are only seeking attention (click-whores), but tell me: are you having second thoughts? I am only asking cause I saw likes on your second blog…

      Like

      • No, I don’t miss them, but I felt like having them in the second blog. At least until it’s been up and running for a while. They’ll probably disappear from my second blog too…

I’ve scheduled the second blog to post something every day. It’s almost like a surprise to myself, because I forgot what I scheduled, so every morning there’s a new post waiting.
