Merry Christmas Everybody!

Wishing everybody a happy Christmas Eve with a traditional Christmas carol from Dubrovnik!

The tradition of  kolendari (carolers) dates back to the 13th century in Dubrovnik (where I grew up). It is the most beautiful Christmas tradition in Croatia that is still preserved. On Christmas eve groups of young men go to people’s homes and sing carols. They are usually offered wine or brandy, oranges, dry figs and sweets.

  1. Awesome tradition and a nice tune. In Norway we used to go “julebokk” (pretty much the same as kolendari) in the days between Yule Evening and New Years Eve, but I haven’t seen any for the last decade. I guess this tradition has died out here in Norway – perhaps the Norwegian people are afraid to stand up for their culture and heritage?

Come on, say something nice
