Black & White Sunday: Distortion

She let go of the fear. She let go of the judgments. She let go of the confluence of opinions swarming around her head. She let go of the committee of indecision within her. She let go of all the ‘right’ reasons. Wholly and completely, without hesitation or worry, she just let go.

-Ernest Holmes

You all know that I am not an authority on photography and will not lecture you about what’s right or wrong or how to tackle today’s theme. I have displayed distorted images many times knowing that they show deformations that were not actually there while I was capturing it, but I did not mind. Accidental deformations that are a result of optical distortions of camera lenses are quite common in my displayed photographs. Today, however, my distortions are real – they are warped water reflections of tree branches.

I would like you to join me and show me your distortions, be they accidental, intentional or actual; cause after all, as Fred Hatt said: „Regularity and symmetry are an illusion. The world we move in is dynamically unbalanced“.

  1. Beautiful images Paula. I’m with you on not laying down rules. Photography is whatever the photographer wants it to be. Just like writing can be fiction or non-fiction
Wobbly reflections were my first thought too but I’m just mulling it over….
