Last Sunday for Black & White photo challenge we explored Darkness and Light by focusing on moody lighting and shadows that add drama to photography. Today I would like us to continue with dramatic captures, but through the use of bold colours. Show us what effect placing red next to black can produce. The easiest way to obtain this is to shoot a red flower against a black background, or a fiery sky with a silhouetted, darkened town, but there are so other many possibilities that I very much look forward to seeing in your entries. Today’s theme is RED and BLACK (my title was inspired by Stendhal’s famous novel: Le Rouge et le Noir).
Thanks Paula, the journey home was smooth and I now have a red and black post for you! Now, I admit to there also being some white – but strictly speaking, that’s not an actual colour…
Mmmm, the brave reduction of all foreground detail so that the modern (I’m guessing) building takes on an ancient castle feel, then the whiskers of trees and pylons soften the horizon, make this superbly dramatic.
I do like a vivid sky 🙂 The sunrise this morning was a dazzling display. Happy Thursday, Paula! The music reminds me of La Macarena and I had a little dance in my armchair.
Good day Paula…poppies gift us the best of reds. As I still “wintering” I chose to do a bit of digital editing with a poppy image in my collection. Again, thanks for these challenges that divert my attention away from the emotional regression that is defining our culture. Sigh…
Fire in the sky, and black silhouettes on Earth. One of the most amazing compositions 🙂

Oh Stendhal. Takes me back to my A level exams!
Great, challenging theme Paula. I’m about to fly home now but will seek inspiration in mid-air.

Honestly, this was the only entirely red sky that I’ve ever seen, and it is not surprising that it happened in winter. Thank you, Linda.

Paula your sky is spectacular. You have stumped me this week and although I posted they have other colourings in most of them. https://irenewaters19.com/2017/02/16/le-rouge-et-le-noir-thursdays-special/
