“They say there is no light without dark, no good without evil, no male without female, no right without wrong. That nothing can exist if it’s direct opposite does not also exist.”
In celebration of winter solstice which is today, Thursday, December 21, for anyone living north of the equator, I decided to go with “Darkness and Light” as the weekly theme of this Thursday’s Special.

Wishing you peace, light and all the joys of the festive season Paula. I waited till 8 for your post to go up but I’m now on my way to York to meet up with James. Maybe I can join you later. Sending hugs xx
A great theme Paula, and what a fantastic image. The patterns in the water and the sloping land all lead us to that gorgeous light.
And wonderful music to go with it – perfect title and perfect melody. Thank you for such a relaxing post on a hectic day. Happy solstice Paula
I captured this around this time last year. This year (the part after the holiday) has been so hectic and the work promises hell in the next year. Debbie, please forgive me for not finding time to check out blogs.
A beautiful photo and lovely music, Paula. It’s so true there is opposition in all things. You can’t know the good, without experiencing the bad; health without sickness; happiness without sadness, etc. Wishing you a joyous Christmas and a very Happy New Year!
The shapes and colours draw me into the water, enchanted by the suns glow to the wonderful colours of the sky. So love this photo Paula.
It seems that I am posting Moon photos for your challenges. Again the Moon and you have been an inspiration. xx http://bushboy.blog/2017/12/22/thursdays-special-darkness-and-light/
Well, Paula, if I were the fairy godmother, my first magic trick would be to reduce your work load. Short of that, am sending love and best wishes for the holiday and beyond. Thank you too for hosting all these brilliant challenges. Your photos are always so original and inspirational. You’ve given us so many treats this year. https://tishfarrell.com/2017/12/21/darkness-and-light-thursdays-special/
HI Paula! It’s been awhile. It seems my WordPress Reader isn’t picking up on blogs I follow…sigh. I love the music included on this post as it invites me to visualize the sunrise in your image. Wouldn’t it be great if nature provided us with such soundtracks during moment such as this! A wondrous moment you have shared…thank you.
A perfect photo for the winter solstice. My favourite sunset occurred a few days earlier, but will remain in my heart for some time to come. The winter sunsets are truly the best part of this time of year. Stay positive Paula throughout 2018.
I like the serenity of your sunset image Paula. Once again, you have selected an inspiring topic for Thursday’s Special, so I have submitted my contribution from Stonehenge. Season’s greetings to all.
Hi Paula, like you I have had a very stressful end of year. I stopped blogging for some months because of it but am now back again with a new blog. Thanks for your inspiring challenge and for the change to reflect on 2017. I hope 2018 brings you inner calm. All the best – Suzanne https://bloggingcalmandchaos.wordpress.com/2017/12/28/the-flood/

Sunset and sunrise — both give us that sense of balance, though I like sunrise because of it’s poetic inference of continuation.
And that is a beautiful sunrise!
