THURSDAY’S SPECIAL: BLUE HOUR

Welcome to Thursday’s Special photo challenge. Today’s theme is Blue Hour. It is my favourite time of the day for photo shooting. Hoping that you like this theme as much as I do, I look forward to seeing your entries 🙂

THURSDAY’S SPECIAL: SATURATION

I am sorry I can’t always keep this photo challenge a weekly event due to my ever increasing workload and stresses at work, but whenever I can I am happy to be here to challenge you and look at your entries. For this week I thought it would be a good idea to tackle “saturation”. It can be interpreted as colour saturation in photography – especially evident in the image post-processing, which is what I did in my examples below, but you can also take it from another angle. Did you know that you can be saturated with work too?

Laurisilva, La Gomera

And with a bit of necessary saturation

THURSDAY’S SPECIAL: TRACES OF THE PAST Y4-03

It’s time for another Traces of the Past theme and this month it shall be in colour. Peeking through bleak and bare trees and nature’s monochrome there is a beautiful Neogothic Parish church of Bled. Not one’s typical view of that enchanting Slovenian town, but the one I thought you might enjoy. For once I decided to show you an example from not so distant past as this church was built in the early 20th century. You have a week to post your entries for this photo challenge. In the meantime I wish you a happy Thursday and a great weekend!

THURSDAY’S SPECIAL: ONCE OVER

If you think that you have seen this image before, you are right. I have posted it once for “After and Before” challenge. This time I would like to show a variation of the same scene. In the first photo I placed a tripod on a small bridge facing the rocks to be able to do a long exposure. There wasn’t much room to maneuver especially with passing visitors.

In the second one however, I placed the camera on the fence of the bridge which allowed me to frame my shot better. This is the frame that I prefer. I did not stop there I edited it a bit differently too, by giving it a fresher look. I hope that this time people will be actually able to see the faces on the rocks 😀

Take your time posting for this challenge. I will look at the entries early next week.

P.S. I posted two different frames of the same scene here to show the difference and to show how sometimes a compromise of using a fence or other stable surface can come handy instead of a tripod that requires some room. It was not by any means an invitation to criticize my photos. I know that people that do it are not photo experts, but this is my blog, I keep it as a source of relaxation for myself and not for others to annoy me.

THURSDAY’S SPECIAL: S-CURVE

Curves are nice, attractive and fun, aren’t they? I love them too,  especially in nature. This image comes from Croatian National Park – Plitvice Lakes. If you want to visit it, just follow the snake.

BLACK & WHITE SUNDAY: AFTER AND BEFORE Y1-05

Regular visitors to my blog know that once a month on a Sunday (usually the last one in a month) I post a combined photo challenge theme for Black&White Sunday. It is called AFTER and BEFORE and it invites you to post the same  image both in black and white and in colour. The topic and subject are entirely arbitrary. The only condition is that you post an image captured in colour and that you turn it monochrome in post processing. I enjoy this little exercise which permits me to see the same scene through colour and without it, and I hope that you will enjoy doing the same. The deadline is next Saturday. Have a great week ahead!

AFTER

Sometimes I have trouble deciding which edit I prefer. Is it colour or black and white? The thing I like about black and white edit here is that there is no sight of the pink jacket in the right of the frame, and that the shapes of mountain are more discernible. Still, I like to think of nature in colour, its colours and shades are inimitable.

THURSDAY’S SPECIAL: SECTION

SECTION – segment, part, component, or in terms of photography a crop of a larger view. Have you ever taken a photo of something and then cropped it to add interest, to improve composition or to zoom in on something? I do it often. For this challenge I am showing a cropped view of Rovinj, coastal town in Istria.

THURSDAY’S SPECIAL: LE ROUGE ET LE NOIR

Last Sunday for Black & White photo challenge we explored Darkness and Light by focusing on moody lighting and shadows that add drama to photography. Today I would like us to continue with dramatic captures, but through the use of bold colours. Show us what effect placing red next to black can produce. The easiest way to obtain this is to shoot a red flower against a black background, or a fiery sky with a silhouetted, darkened town, but there are so other many possibilities that I very much look forward to seeing in your entries.  Today’s theme is RED and BLACK (my title was inspired by Stendhal’s famous novel: Le Rouge et le Noir).

NEW HORIZON

Healing grace of a true horizon

Healing grace of a true horizon

This is my offering for weekly photo challenge and Jo’s Monday Walk

P.S. This is the last post this week. I can’t seem to find time to post and to view my favourite blogs, so I will take a blog break till next Thursday (22 December). See Scheduled challenges for updates.

Black & White Sunday: Landscape

Today we are having everyone’s favourite theme: landscape. The only trick is that it has to be in black and white. My memories have taken me to Poland, this time on the shores of lake Czorsztyn.

pol_dvorac_bw-1-blazi-potpis_resize

A path, a meadow, some trees, and an old castle hanging above a lake; what more should a landscape have?

Here you can check out the same thing in colour.

If you want to participate in Black & White Sunday photo challenge, make sure to:

  • make a B&W photo post on today’s theme before next Sunday, 3 December

  • link it to this challenge post and tag it   #blackandwhitesunday

  • leave a comment under this post (pingbacks are not comments)

Monochrome landscapes are not always easy, but the contributors came up with some fascinating images. Check them out on the following links:
